Building on the success of its holiday train, the CTA dispatches a festive bus to cruise the streets of Chicago during the holiday season. Each year, students from one CPS school use their artistic talents to transform that bus into a virtual winter wonderland.
The teachers at Wacker know how valuable art is to their students’ academic experience, so they integrated this project into their daily curriculum. Students at every grade level were given tiles to decorate, working on them during class, after school, and at home before presenting them to their classmates for a vote.
The student body voted on the artwork, then gave the winning tiles to the CTA for use on the holiday bus. The bus was featured in Chicago’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and made a special stop at Wacker last week so that students could see the results of their hard work.
Along with their families, Wacker students boarded the bus to check out their artwork, and even had the chance to chat with special guest Santa Claus. The students enjoyed their private tour of the bus, as well as the knowledge that their artwork has been on display throughout the city all month long.
